Russia issues diplomatic note to Turkey over citizen heading to Syria

The Russian Embassy in Ankara has reportedly dispatched a diplomatic note to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs seeking recent information about Russian citizen Mariam Ismailova, who reportedly traveled to Turkey in transit to Syria to join Daesh, Todays Zaman reported on Friday.

Igor Mityakov, who serves as the press secretary of the Russian Embassy, was quoted as saying: "The Turkish Foreign Affairs Ministry has not presented information yet on whether or not Ismailova came to Turkey. The embassy does not have information on whether her father, Mansur Ismailov, is in Ankara or not. He has not contacted us."

Ismailova was a student at the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration.

The Russian media said when Ismailova did not return from university on June 12, her father suspected she had run away to İstanbul with a passport she might have secretly applied for in order to join Daesh.
