Russia releases 2 men convicted Of spying for Georgia

Two Georgian men who were accused of spying for Tbilisi in 2008 have been released from a Russian prison early, Georgian Prime Minister’s Special Representative for Relations with Russia Zurab Abashidze said at a briefing on Wednesday. The men have already reunited with their families in Georgia, he said in his briefing relayed by Russian (Interfax) news agency today.“There are several more (Georgian) citizens serving sentences in Russia on the same charge and we are working toward their release,” Abashidze said.The Georgian authorities wanted to keep the matter low-key, but now that we have concrete results, “this can be talked about,” he said. “This is one of the results of our dialogue with Russia,” Abashidze said.
