Russia will not support a new resolution of the UN General Assembly on Syria and will vote against it, the Foreign Ministry said on Saturday, April 13. “Moscow is concerned about the possibility of new escalation of tensions and confrontation around the Syrian issue at the United Nations. Some countries have prepared a draft resolution of the UN General Assembly on Syria and intend to put it to the vote shortly,” the ministry said. “The document, just like the previous two resolutions of the UN General Assembly, is clearly one-sided. All responsibility for the tragic developments in Syria is placed on the government of that country contrary to the obvious facts, including those confirmed by authoritative international organisations, that expose unlawful, including terrorist, actions of opposition armed groups,” the ministry said. “The Russian Federation will not support this draft resolution and will vote against it,” the ministry stressed.
