The agreement between Russia and the United States on grounding the Syrian Air Force's flights does not signify creation of a no-fly zone in Syria, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov said Monday as quoted by Sputnik news agency.
"Of course not. There is coordination [in Syria] on who will fly where and the Syrian Air Force will fly, but only in accordance with the schedule," Bogdanov said.
On September 9, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and US Secretary of State John Kerry announced a new plan on Syria, which stipulates a ceasefire that comes into force Monday. The plan also precludes the Syrian Air Force to fly over territories controlled by the opposition.
