Russian government won't revise sanctions against Turkey

Natalia Timakova, a spokeswoman for the Russian prime minister, said on Friday that Russia’s government will not revise sanctions against Turkey, TASS news agency reported.

The spokeswoman made the remarks commenting on the Kommersant daily publication about possible mitigation of anti-Turkish sanctions.

The government however will draw a list of contract not to be subject to economic sanctions, if there is such a necessity, she said, adding that such decisions are in the competence of the prime minister.

She reminded that "special measures against Turkey came into force under the Russian president’s decree."

"The government issues documents on the implementation of the presidential decrees," Timakova said. "Some of them have already been issued and are working, some are being prepared and will be issued later."

The spokeswoman reassured that the government was keeping a close eye on the implementation of the decrees and resolutions concerning restrictive measures.

"We plan no revision or adjustment of these measures," she said.

Economic sanctions against Turkey came into force from January 1, 2016. Thus, Russia has banned imports of Turkish vegetables, fruits and poultry.

Apart from that, Turkish companies have been banned to perform certain types of works and services in such sectors as construction and tourism. Russia imposed sanctions against Turkey after a Turkish fighter jet shot down a Russian Su-24 bomber over Syria.
