Russian judges suggest banning all people convicted for taking bribes from state service for up to six years, Russian Supreme Court Chairman Vyacheslav Lebedev said Tuesday at a meeting of the Council of Judges of the Russian Federation underway in Moscow.
Lebedev said it is one of several proposals submitted by judges to intensify the fight against corruption-related crimes and toughen criminal responsibility.
In particular, he said, judges suggest amending the law and making an additional punishment of deprivation of the right to hold specific posts or engage in certain activities compulsory. "Without an alternative, for a term of at least six years," the chairman said.
Besides, they proposed making mediation in commercial bribery a criminal offense, and made other suggestions.
The proposals have been collected from Russian courts on the basis of a survey. "We have chosen those suggested by most of our respondent colleagues, who see in them effect and intensification of the fight against corruption-related crimes," Lebedev added.
