
The National Guard of the Russian Federation has made impressive achievements in safeguarding the public security and combating organized crimes since its establishment a year ago, RIA Novosti news agency reported on Monday.
According to the report, since April 2016, the special forces of the national guard have killed in North Caucasus 125 gunmen, destroyed over 300 base camps, arrested over 15,000 suspects, neutralized around 80 armed groups, and seized assets worth over 1 billion rubles (18 million U.S. dollars).
More than 2,000 arms units and 290,000 sorts of ammunition from illegal turnover have been seized. Servicemen of the private security have also revealed over 41,000 crimes and arrested more than 47,000 suspects.
The new service's duties include joint operations in securing borders,
combating terrorism and organized crime, as well as protecting public safety and guarding important state facilities.
There are about 340,000 servicemen in the national guard, including around 160,000 from the Russian Interior Ministry Forces.
The National Guard Day was designated to be marked on March 27.
