Russian officials keen on boosting ties with Egypt

The Egyptian side has sensed during talks by President Abdel Fattah El Sisi with Russian officials here on Tuesday Moscow's interest in boosting ties with Cairo on all levels and in all sectors to achieve greater progress in the bilateral relationship, Presidential spokesman Alaa Yousef said Wednesday.

During the talks with Sisi, the Russian side shed light on investment opportunities between both countries in all fields, Yousef said.

Regarding Sisi's talks in the Kremlin later today, the spokesman said the Syrian crisis would figure high due to Russia's vital role in the issue and meetings that were held in Russia between the Syrian regime and opposition.

The meeting between Sisi and Russian President Vladimir Putin will be an opportunity to exchange views on ways to stop Syrian bloodshed and defuse the crisis, Yousef said.

Regarding a landmark deal signed by Iran and major world powers, the spokesman said it's too early to talk about any impact of the deal on the Middle East and Gulf nations.

He said Egypt is hoping the deal will pave the way for rendering the Middle East a zone free of weapons of mass destruction and nuclear weapons.

The deal should "not be at the expense of other nations" in the region, the spokesman said, adding the security of the Gulf is part and parcel of Egypt's national security.
