Iran said that Syria has a strategic position in the region, stressing the need to settle the problems of this country in the framework of an internal dialogue and the implementation of the reforms demanded by the Syrian people. Iranian (Mehr) news agency reported that this came during a meeting last night on the sidelines of the 19th meeting of the Human Rights Council in Geneva between Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi and the joint United Nations-Arab League envoy on the Syrian crisis Kofi Annan. Salehi believed that foreign interference in the internal developments in Syria would tighten the internal problems, stressing the need to assist the Syrian government in the implementation of reforms, Mehr added.
