Sandra Fluke running for Congress in California as Democrat

Sandra Fluke, the women's rights activist who became a national celebrity when she was attacked by Rush Limbaugh, is running for Congress in California. Fluke's name appears on a list of candidates seeking the Democratic Party endorsement for the seat now held by Henry Waxman, D-Calif. The party website has a total of six people listed, three including Fluke, who have filed paperwork and three considered potential candidates. Limbaugh called Fluke a "slut" when she testified before a congressional committee in favor of compelling religious colleges and other institutions to provide insurance that covers birth control. At the time, she was a student at Georgetown Law School in Washington, a Catholic university where the student health plan did not cover contraception. The attack made Fluke far more famous than her testimony and she received a telephone call from President Obama. She graduated from Georgetown in 2012 and was admitted to the California Bar that December.
