A senior Chinese official died while being questioned on corruption charges, said authorities in Wuhan, capital of central China's Hubei province. Ran Jianxin, 49, a city official who was also a people's congress deputy, had been under investigation for alleged corruption, and died during the weekend while being interrogated by county authorities, Xinhua news agency reported. The report said Ran was arrested May 26 on charges he took bribes from construction contractors. His cousin was quoted as saying he found signs of wounds on Ran's body at a hospital and believed it was an "unnatural death," Xinhua said. There were no other details about the incident, but the news agency said an investigation has been ordered into his death.
