Sarajevo - Anadolu

The first President of the Assembly of the Republika Srpska (RS) and the Hague convict for war crimes in Bosnia and Herzegovina Momcilo Krajisnik last night came to Pale, the municipality of RS near Sarajevo, where Serbian authorities have prepared a festive welcome for his early release from the prison. Municipal Board of the Serbian Democratic Party prepared the welcome which was attended by 3,000 Serbs from various parts of the RS. At the entrance to the municipality of Pale stood the billboard which said: Welcome Mr. President! Serbs who were present at the welcome ceremony sang national songs and raised placards with messages such as: ''Stop Hague terror '' and ''Krajisnik is son of the Serbian people''. In his speech, President of Serbian Democratic Party Mladen Bosic said that the citizens of RS came to give respect not only to Momcilo Krajisnik but also to ''Radovan Karadzic and Ratko Mladic whose sin is creating the RS''. Krajisnik in his address said that he doesn’t know why they organized welcome for him because he is stilll a "war criminal". He announced that by the end of this year or early next year he will revise the verdict finding him guilty of war crimes. Speaking on the RS which was established after the aggression on Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bosic said that the establishment of RS on the other side of the Drina (River on the eastern border of Bosnia and Serbia) ''cost much and that it takes a long time''. “Nothing can shake RS” said Bosic, “neither the storm nor NATO bombing”, adding that RS will surely meet its ultimate goal. According to him, the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) and ''small ICTY in Sarajevo'' should not “teach our children that those who created the Republika Srpska are war criminals.” Referring to Krajisnik, Bosic said afterwards: ''We have our Republika Srpska in the freedom today.'' Momcilo Krajisnik was arrested in 2000 in Pale municipality and transferred to the ICTY. At the first hearing he said he was not guilty to all counts. In 2006, he was sentenced to 27 years in prison for persecution, extermination, murder, deportation and other crimes against humanity on non-Serbs in Bosnia and Herzegovina during the war. In March 2009, The Appeals Chamber reduced his sentence to 20 years in prison, and in September 2009 Krajisnik was transferred to the UK to serve the remaining of his sentence. Since the transfer to Britain he filed the claims for early release in 2010, 2011 and 2012, but all three were rejected. This year, he was released before serving his sentence.
