Several hundred rally downtown Chicago for anti-Trump protest

Hundreds of protesters rallied at downtown Chicago on Sunday afternoon to express their displeasure with the Trump administration's court-paused travel ban, its policies on immigrants in the United States without legal permission.

The protesters gathered on Wacker Drive across the Chicago River from Trump Tower. Around 1 p.m. local time, hundreds began making their way down State Street to Federal Plaza, chanting and holding signs calling for resistance to President Trump's immigration policy.

The protesters said they came together to defend immigrants, Muslims, people of color, LGBTQ people, workers and the poor.

Colleen Rockelmann and her son Colin attended the protest to support immigrant students and teachers at the dual-language school Colin attends.

"I came here because I wanted to make a difference, and I want to say that it's not OK to force people out of the country. And we should let immigrants in," Colin said.

The protest, which caused some traffic delays, ended with a rally at Federal Plaza, where Angelica Magana, founder of the group Rise and Organize, blasted Trump for recent raids carried out by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Demonstrators also denounced Trump's administration for its position on climate change, gender equality and other issues.
