Ship laden with Kuwaiti relief aid arrives in Sudan

A ship carrying Kuwaiti relief aid to victims of recent floods in Sudan arrived here on Thursday. A field team representing the Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) which is in Sudan to see to the distribution of all Kuwaiti relief aid to flood victims met today with the Kuwaiti ambassador to Sudan Talal al-Hajri and coordinated with him the dispersal of the relief aid in accordance with laid out schedule plans. The ship arriving today carries the 12th such relief aid shipments to the flood-stricken areas in Sudan, said the ambassador, adding that earlier on, the KRCS supervised aid brought into that country by military aircraft of the Kuwaiti army, fulfilling a decision by the Kuwaiti cabinet to provide relief aid to the tune of USD 2.5 million to Sudan. Today's batch of aid is the last one which will be distributed in concert with Sudanese authorities, he told KUNA. The ship arriving today carries 275 tons of aid consisting in a great part of 10,000 tents, 5,000 cooking utensils, and 10,000 jerry cans which will be primarily handed out to flood victims in the regions of Khartoum, al-Jazeera, and the White Nile, said an official with the KRCS team overseeing the distribution of aid. All relief aid operations are being conducted jointly by the KRCS and its Sudanese counterpart in conjunction with the Kuwaiti embassy in Khartoum, he said. To that end, he thanked the Sudanese authorities for easing steps to unload the cargo of today's ship.
