Shots fired at Mississippi military facilities

Authorities were searching for two suspects that allegedly opened fired around a military facility in the U.S. state of Mississippi, local media report said Tuesday.

Local ABC-affiliated TV station WDAM TV quoted authorities as saying that two white suspects driving in a two-door red Ranger with "broken arrow" written across the top opened fired around 12: 10 p.m. local time Tuesday at a group of soldiers at the Camp Shelby Joint Forces Training Center. No injuries were reported.

About 4,600 U.S. soldiers were reportedly participating in the training exercise at the center.

The shooting came less than three weeks after a lone gunman shot dead four U.S. Marines and fatally wounded a U.S. Navy sailor in shooting sprees at two military facilities in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

The shooting incidents also came at a time when the U.S. authorities were becoming increasingly concerned about threats posed by domestic sympathizers of the Islamic State extremist group against military facilities in the country.

Given the looming danger posed by possible domestic attacks, the U.S. military announced in May that security status at domestic U.S. military bases was raised to "Force Protection Bravo ", a level defined by the U.S. military as an "increased and predictable threat of terrorism."
