Shoukry heads for Spain to attend EU meeting

Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry left here Sunday heading for Barcelona to attend a consultative meeting of the European Union and southern Mediterranean states on the European neighborhood policy.

Egypt's participation in the meeting reflects its keenness to boost Euro-Mediterranean cooperation in the different economic, political, commercial and cultural fields.

In pre-departure statements, Shoukry said Egypt is following up the military operations in Yemen and takes part in them after coordination with the Saudi-led coalition.

He also said there is a draft resolution on Yemen which is currently being prepared by the Gulf Cooperation Concil (GCC) and Saudi Arabia to be referred to the UNSC to restore legitimacy in Yemen.

During his meeting with his counterparts from EU and southern Mediterranean member states, Shoukry will discuss means of reviewing European neighborhood policy which determines the features of the relations between the northern and southern Mediterranean countries to be more responsive to aspirations of the Mediterranean peoples.

On the sidelines of the meetings, Shoukry will discuss with his counterparts from the Arab and European states means to boost bilateral cooperation and regional issues topped by war on terror and the situation in Libya, Yemen and the Syrian crisis along with the Palestinian issue.
