Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry will head Monday to New York to take part in the session to be held in October 15 in the United Nations General Assembly to vote on joining the new members in the non permanent membership category for the years 2016-2017 including Egypt.
The participation of Shoukry came after strenuous efforts exerted by the Foreign Ministry to make Egypt join the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), said the Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Abu Zaid on Sunday.
The Egyptian top diplomat made tours of the headquarters of the UN in New York and Nairobi where he met with high-level officials as well as African, European and Asian foreign ministers to mobilize support for Egypt to join the UNSC.
