Shoukry meets members of American Jewish Committee in Washington

Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry started his current US visit by meeting Wednesday with members of the American Jewish Committee in Washington.

The meeting reviewed Egypt's viewpoint toward the several crises which are facing the Middle East, topped by the Syrian crisis, the situation in Libya and efforts to combat terrorism along with the Palestinian cause and the Egyptian-US ties.

Shoukry, who is visiting Washington to attend the Nuclear Safety Summit, which will kick off on Thursday, reviewed efforts and proposals to relaunch the Palestinian-Israeli peace talks, said Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid.

He also pointed out to the French initiative, which calls for holding an international peace conference. 

It is important to renew hope among the Palestinian side for the possibility of reaching a final settlement of the Palestinian cause, he added. 

Shoukry also reviewed the latest economic, social and political developments in Egypt along with the mega economic projects, which are currently being implemented to reform the economic structure. 

He also pointed out to the efforts exerted by the police and Armed Forces in combating terrorism. 

Regarding Shoukry's meeting with Former US Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel, Abu Zeid said that the meeting tackled the security and political conditions in the Middle East along with efforts to confront Daesh terrorist group. 

The meeting also reviewed Egypt's efforts to support peace and stability in Libya along with the efforts of the international community to support the political process in Syria, added the spokesman.
