The Shura Council condemned in the strongest possible terms the terror explosion which targeted Shaikh Isa bin Salman Al-Khalifa Mosque in Riffa, as worshippers were performing “Taraweeh prayers”. In statement tonight, the Shura Council denounced the criminal act which comes as part of the campaign of terror claiming innocent lives and endangering people’s safety without any justification whatsoever. The Shura Council condemned the dangerous escalation, denouncing all acts of sabotage and violence, being perpetrated to plunge the country in the infernal cycle of insecurity, and fuel political tensions which would only serve foreign designs. “This heinous campaign will only wreak havoc on public and private properties, subvert stability, terrorise citizens and residents, cripple human and economic development and jeopardize civil peace”, the council said. It dismissed the acts of terror and sabotage as contravening tolerant Islamic precepts and international covenants and norms, paying tribute to the security forces for their efforts to maintain national security and stability. It called on civil society institutions and citizens to assume their responsibilities in this defining moment, affirming the freedom of expression is guaranteed I the constitution and law provisions. The Shura Council affirmed the door of national dialogue as confirmed by his Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa at the opening of the third session of the third legislative term. The council also appealed to scholars and religious leaders to advocate a moderate religious rhetoric and promote unity as well as the renunciation of violence terror and sabotage.
