
President Abdel Fattah El Sisi met on Saturday with a US House of Representatives delegation led by Steve Scalise.
The team asserted during the meeting the importance of Egypt's role in the region, said presidential spokesman Alaa Youssef.
They stressed the relations between Washington and Cairo are pivotal. They also confirmed support for Egypt as a strategic partner particularly in combating terror, said the spokesman.
Sisi expressed appreciation for the ties with the US and the history of cooperation over decades. He underlined the importance of promoting these relations to reach a new level to live up to the current regional and international changes, said Youssef.
Sisi welcomed the outcome of recent strategic dialogue between Cairo and Washington. The results reflected joint keenness to boost partnership and cooperation in different fields, he said.
He voiced hope cooperation will be promoted and foundations required to achieve this will be set up to serve mutual interests and address joint challenges.
The president cited the threat of terror which is mushrooming across the Middle East and the world.
He called for defusing the current crises in the region.
Sisi invited the US House of Representatives to cover the coming parliamentary elections in Egypt to assert transparency and fairness.
The delegation expressed appreciation for the president's stances and role to boost peace and stability in Egypt and the region.
