President Abdel Fattah El Sisi met on Monday with Burundian presidential adviser Mohammad Rokara in the presence of Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and the Burundian ambassador to Egypt.
Presidential Spokesman Alaa Youssef said the Burundian official conveyed to President Sisi a message from the Burundian president on means to cement the two countries' relations.
He expressed the president's keenness on promoting ties with African countries in the best interest of the African continent and its development.
President Sisi affirmed during the meeting that Egypt understands the development needs of African states, especially water needs from River Nile which, he said, must be a symbol of unity, solidarity and joint cooperation among the Nile basin states.
For his part, the Burundian official hailed the role played by Egypt in Africa, especially the technical support to some African states for building their capabilities.
Rokara also hailed the role of Al Azhar in disseminating the tolerant teachings of Islam in Africa.
