Some 700 migrants were rescued off Libya on Friday after several interventions coordinated by the Italian coast guard, the ANSA news agency reported.
The migrants were spotted on seven different rubber dinghies.
Three were intercepted directly by the Italian coast guard; three more by a Maltese cargo ship that was directed to the vessels by Italian authorities; and another cargo was sent to rescue the people from a seventh inflatable boat.
