Sopoaga sworn in as Tuvalu's new PM

Enele Sopoaga was sworn in on Friday as prime minister of Tuvalu for the next four years, local media reported.
Sopoaga's government, comprising eight cabinet ministers, was sworn into office before Governor General Sir Iaokoba Italeli, according to Fenui News and the Pacific Islands News Association.
Tuvalu's latest parliamentary election was held late last month.
Sopoaga, who was in the last government completing the term of former Prime Minister Willie Telavi who resigned in August 2013, maintains a majority of 11 out of the 15 elected members of parliament.
Apart from the prime minister's position, Sopoaga is responsible for public utilities and infrastructure. His deputy is former Prime Minister Maatia Toafa, who is also responsible for finance and economic development.
Tuvalu's parliament comprises 15 seats, and a parliamentary election is held every four years in the Pacific island country with a population of around 10,000.
