Spain agrees to review bilateral relations with Nigeria

The government of Spain has agreed to review bilateral relations with Nigeria, a top official said Thursday. Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs of Spain Gonzalo de Benito disclosed this to reporters in Nigeria's capital city Abuja, noting that reviewing bilateral ties with Nigeria would see Spain as the fourth destination of Nigerian exports. "Nigeria exports to Spain is recorded at 8.1 billion U.S. dollars over the last two years and it keeps growing but there are low imports from Spain to Nigeria of about 400 million U.S. dollars. We want to engage Nigeria in tourism, infrastructure building companies, agriculture, oil and gas, and renewable energy, " he said. A review of the Nigeria-Spain bilateral relations would be done annually, Benito stated, adding that Spain was ready to share experiences with the Nigerian government in tackling terrorism and prosecuting terrorists. Nigeria is among west African nations that the Spanish government has resolved to assist in developing different sectors of the economy as well as train its troops to meet up with security demands, he said further.
