Britain's decision to leave the European Union will have an impact on its negotiations with Spain over Gibraltar, Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs Manuel Garcia-Margallo said Friday.
Future talks will not involve Britain's relations with the EU, but will be conducted bilaterally between Britain and Spain, Garcia-Margallo told the radio station Onda Cero.
Spain is proposing sharing sovereignty with Britain over Gibraltar, AP reported today. This would be a transitory step towards the enclave becoming fully Spanish, the minister said in the interview.
Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy said the rights of Spaniards living or working in Gibraltar would not be affected at least until Britain left the EU within two years' time.
