Speaker of the Danish parliament visits the Danish house in Palestine

Speaker of the Danish Parliament and former Danish Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mogens Lykketoft, visited the Danish House in Palestine on February 10, 2014, following an invitation from the newly appointed Palestinian Ambassador to Denmark. Mogens Lykketoft has been a supporter of the Danish House in Palestine for many years, but this is his first visit to the House.During the visit Director Karen Nordemann updated Lykketoft about the House's activities, while Member of the Danish House's Advisory Committee, Sam Bahour explained why the Danish House is important and why it makes a difference to the Palestinian civil society. "I have been a supporter of the House for many years, and I think it is really important with a place that communicates how life is in Palestine," Mogens Lykketoft says.He added, "There is a huge discrepancy between the size of the official Israeli megaphone and the Palestinian megaphone. While there is an increasing understanding of the difficult circumstances, the Palestinians live under, for example the consequences of the occupation, it is still a big challenge that the Israeli side is the main voice in the Danish media and in the Danish awareness."That is something that you with your work at the Danish House can be part of changing."Director of the Danish House in Palestine, Karen Nordemann, said, "We are very happy to meet with Mogens Lykketoft during his visit to Palestine and very honoured to have such a prominent supporter who is not afraid of speaking his mind when it comes to the challenges in this region, which he experienced himself during his recent trip.""We hope, that next time he comes he will also be able to visit Gaza and meet some of the inspiring people who live there," she added.
