Sri Lankan Navy repatriates 102 Indian fishermen

Over 100 Indian fishermen who were arrested by Sri Lankan authorities for illegally poaching in local waters were repatriated at the International Maritime Boundary line on Thursday evening, the navy said here.
The Navy media unit said that 102 Indian fishermen were handed over to the Indian Coast Guard Ships "Durgavati" and "Amaya" at the International Maritime Boundary Line North of Kankasanthurei, in the north of the island nation.
The Sri Lanka Navy often arrest Indian fishermen, mostly from the Indian southern state of Tamil Nadu, for violating the International Maritime Boundary Line and entering the island's waters for poaching.
The Sri Lankan government says that the fishermen in the north of the island nation cannot gather a proper fish harvest since their Indian counterparts are continuously engaging in illegal fishing methods to fish in Sri Lankan waters.
