The nation's chief auditor on Friday offered his resignation to President Park Geun-hye, although his constitutionally-guaranteed, four-year term ends in March 2015, officials said. Yang Kun, the head of the Board of Audit and Inspection (BAI), has been under criticism after a controversial BAI report on the outcome of the probe into the country's four-river project was announced early last month. The report turned over the outcome of the BAI's previous probe conducted under the Lee Myung-bak administration by concluding that the former president had conducted the big-budget project with a controversial canal project in mind, resulting in bid rigging and increased costs. Some loyalists to the former president in the ruling Saenuri Party called for Yang's resignation.
