Deputy Spokesperson of US Department of State Mark Toner said that the US seeks achieving a permanent ceasefire in all over Syria.
Responding to a question on the announcements of the Syrian regime that Aleppo ceasefire will run for 48 hours, Toner said that the US wants the ceasefire to be open-ended.
Washington is currently working on extending the ceasefire period, he said.
On the statements of Syrian President Bashar el Assad in a cable sent to Russian President Vladimir Putin that he will only accept clear victory over opposition elements in Aleppo and northern Syria, Toner said that the statements were not surprising.
