The Sudanese armed forces on Monday announced that it regained control over Mafo area in Blue Nile State, bordering with South Sudan, from rebels of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N). The army inflicted heavy losses on the rebels’ lives and ammunitions, Brig. Al Sawarmi Khaled Saad, Sudanese armed forces spokesman, told Sudanese SUNA News Agency, noting that 66 rebels were killed and over 70 others were wounded. Al Sawarmi pointed out that few numbers of Sudanese military were killed and injured during the battle with the rebels, adding that the injured were taken for treatment in South Sudan. He said that some of the rebels have retreated to Wadka and Awara areas, noting “the armed forces has imposed full control on the area and launched combing operations at the area after defeating the rebels.”
