
Head of the Suez Canal Authority Mohab Memish received here Sunday a delegation of consulates of a number of Arab and foreign countries in Alexandria under the Lebanese Consulate Osama Khashab.
The delegation grouped consuls from the United Kingdom, Russia, Sudan, Palestine, the US, China and Greece.
Addressing the delegation, Memish said that the Suez Canal is a symbol for the unity of peoples as its law does not differentiate between the flag of a country and that of another one during the passage of vessels.
He further underlined that the waterway bring about prosperity for Egypt and the whole world.
Memish explained the stages of digging the New Suez Canal since giving the go-ahead till its inauguration ceremony, noting that the venture is purely Egyptian in its idea, planning and funding.
He underscored that the project was supported by the political leadership after being acquainted about its importance.
Memish reiterated that the navigation at the Suez Canal did not stop during the outbreak of the January 25th Revolution.
