Swedish widow charged in husband's death

A Swedish woman, now 72, has been charged in the cold case killing of her husband some 20 years ago, prosecutors said. The unidentified woman and her husband were fighting inside their home in Stromstad, a town on Sweden's west coast, some 20 years ago. Cold case detectives now say it was the wife who hit the husband on the head several times and used a stun gun to shock him four times, causing a fatal heart attack. The woman's lawyer, Bjorn Hurtig, said his client denies the charges and instead insists she was the victim of abuse. He said it was the husband who brought the stun gun into the altercation and the wife was using it as self-defense, the Swedish news agency TT reported Tuesday. Charges were originally filed in October but are just now becoming public. Prosecutors allege the woman wanted her husband dead because he had threatened to file for divorce, meaning she would no longer have access to their country house, which was "dear to her heart."
