Syrian Foreign Minister Walid Al-Mualem met here Sunday visiting United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Peacekeeping Operations Herv{ Ladsous on the current situation in Syria in light of international observers deployed here. Spokesman for the Syrian Foreign Ministry Jihad Maqdesi said in remarks following the meeting that they had mainly discussed the tasks of international monitors in Syria. He quoted Ladsous as thanking Syria for cooperating with the UN monitor mission, which is mainly intended to monitor the situation on the ground in this Arab country and to provide the congenial atmosphere for a political solution to the crisis of Syria. But, he said Ladsous had asked the Syrian government to provide the UN observers with more logistical services. For his part, the Syrian foreign minister called for giving more attention to humanitarian aid, saying that one million Syrians are being affected by the current events, he said.
