Syria Monday's violence claims lives of some 20 people

Some 20 Syrians were killed and scores other injured in clashes between Syria armed forces and opposition gunmen on Monday. State news agency (SANA) reported that 11 people were killed and 20 others were injured by mortar shells fired on Al-Jamiliyeh neighborhood in Aleppo. It said one Syrian was killed and eight others wounded by when an improvised explosive device (IED), planted in a car, exploded near Al-Safsafiye village in Hama countryside. A security source also told SANA that scores of Syrians were wounded by mortar shelling attacks on several neighborhoods of the capital Damascus. The source stated that two people were injured by mortar shells fired in Al-Sheikh Muhidden, Al-Abbaseein and Al-Adawi areas in Damascus. A mortar shell fell on a sanitary shop in Al-Sheikh Muhidden area, causing the injury of two people and material damage to a number of shops and cars. It added that six other shells landed on residential houses in the area surrounding Al-Abbaseein schools for girls with no casualties. Furthermore, a mortar shell landed on the bridge of Al-Adawi highway, causing material damge. Meanwhile, the opposition Free Syrian Army announced that several opposition fighters and civilians were killed Monday in the intensify clashes between opposition in regime forces in the different Syrian cities. In a press statement, the FSA declared the killing of at least seven of the government forces personnel, including a brigadier, destroying of two tanks and shooting down of regime military plane. It added that opposition fighters have managed to wrestle control of several towns in Damarcus countryside and Aleppo.
