Syrian army foils militants’ attack on Shiite town in Idlib

The Syrian army repelled an attack by the armed rebels on a Shiite town in Idlib countryside in Northwestern Syria. The army units supported by local people foiled militants' attack on the Shiite-populated town of Foeh in Idlib countryside. Tens of militants have been killed and dozens more injured in heavy clashes with the Syrian army. The militants also fired 10 mortar rounds at Foeh town which only left damage on a number of buildings. Earlier today, a military source said that the Syrian army units destroyed militant groups in Sraqeb, Maart al-Nu'man and thwarted militants' infiltration attempt into al-Sawame' area in Bsida village, Idlib countryside. Syria has been experiencing unrest since March 2011 with organized attacks by well-armed gangs and terrorists against both the army and civilians. Tens of thousands of people have been killed since terrorist and armed groups turned protest rallies into armed clashes. The government blames outlaws, saboteurs, and armed terrorist groups for the deaths, stressing that the unrest is being orchestrated from abroad.
