Syrian embassy denies US spying charges

The Syrian embassy here Wednesday denied that a man detained by US authorities had been acting as a spy for the regime of President Bashar al-Assad, dismissing the allegations as "ludicrous." Reacting to the news of the arrest of Syrian-born US citizen Mohamad Soueid, the embassy said in a statement: "Neither Mr. Soueid nor any other citizen of the US is an agent of the Syrian government."
