Syrian envoy: US inciting unrests in Syria

Syria's Ambassador to Washington Imad Mustafa blamed the US for inciting unrests in his country, and said the White House is seeking to take political advantage from the unrests in Syria.In an interview with the Syrian TV on Saturday, Imad Mustafa said the US is seeking to stir up crisis in Syria in a bid to use it for its political intentions, and added that the US State Department's latest statements on Syria prove that "the US will spare no effort to harm Syria". He stated that the role of the US in the current crisis is multilateral. "The US role stems from a political attitude," he said, and explained, "The US and Syria have been confronting each other for decades because the Syrian stances are often unappealing to the US." Since the 1950s, the Syria-US relationship has been characterized by "tension" because of the nature of the Arab-Israeli conflict. He clarified that Syria has been a thorn in the side of the US for a very long time, adding that the US and its allies felt irritated by the Arab initiative on his country, and they did their best in a bid to prevent success of this initiative. Mustafa added that the US is ready to do anything to prevent dialogue in Syria, pointing out that the recent sanctions on Syria, imposed by the US, are "caricature" because the date of those sanctions goes back to 1956 reached their height in 2004. He stressed that the Syrian government's approach to the current crisis has the two dimensions of security and politics. "Politically, the government is working to meet the demands of large parts of the Syrian people." "Concerning security, the Syrian government cannot allow, like all other countries of the world, the armed terrorist groups to commit crimes of killing against the Syrian people," he concluded.
