Syrian government accuses armed groups of committing new massacre

The Syrian government accused on Monday armed groups of commiting a massacre in Adra city outside Damascus killing more than 100 people. According to Syrian News Agency (SANA), the accusation was made in letters sent by the Syrian Foreign Ministry to UN Secretary General, President of the United Nations Security Council, and the High Commissioner for Human Rights concerning a new massacre committed by "terrorist" groups affiliated to Jabhat Al-Nusra, Liwa' Al-Islam and the so-called "Islamic Front" in Adra city. More than 100 citizens have been slaughtered on December 11 in Adra, a safe town hosting citizens displaced from neighboring areas, the letters said. The letters said "terrorists" have burned down the homes of state workers in the town, shot dead others and mutilated their bodies, and held many others at the city's bakery after rigging it with explosives. The ministry's letters added "the UNSC members should have abstained from supporting terrorism in Syria," urging these countries to play "a more effective role in combating the armed terrorist groups and having them and their supporters held to account." The ministry also demanded that the UNSC shouldered its responsibilities for implementing its binding resolutions that ban terrorism and the provision of any kind of support to it.
