Tajik president leaves for Moscow to attend V-Day celebrations

Tajikstan’s President Emomali Rahmon has departed to Moscow on Friday after a military parade in Dushanbe, a source in the presidential administration told TASS.

"Commander-in-Chief, the country’s President Emomali Rahmon reviewed the troops during the military parade held early on Friday on parade ground near the Eternal Flame in Victory Park. Taking part in the parade were more than 2,000 servicemen of the republic’s Armed Forces, as well as a detachment of Russia’s 201st military base," the presidential administration said. He delivered a welcoming speech, pointing to the eternal feat of heroism of the Soviet people in the struggle against Nazism and called for remembering the lessons of World War Two and doing everything possible to prevent the revival of Nazism.

Later in the day, the President of Tajikistan has left for Moscow to take part in an informal CIS summit. On May 9, the Tajik leader will attend the parade on Red Square, whose participants will include more than 100 service members from his country. Among honorary guests on Red Square will be three war veterans from Tajikistan, including renowned 93-year-old female scout Mahbuba Tursunova.
