A Pakistani Taliban spokesman denied the group offered a cease-fire as militants Wednesday launched a deadly attack on a police station in the northwest. The Pakistani Taliban claimed responsibility for the attack on the police station in Dera Ismail Khan, killing two officers and injuring seven others, CNN reported. China's Xinhua news agency, citing local reports, said the police station attack in northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province, killed three policemen and injured four others. Taliban spokesman Ehsanullah Ehsan told CNN by telephone the Wednesday attack should prove false earlier reports the militant group had declared a cease-fire while holding peace talks with the government. The predawn police station attack was carried out by about 10 militants, who lobbed grenades and later engaged the policemen in a gun battle, CNN reported, quoting police official Sohail Khalid. The militants later fled from the scene.
