Tayyeb condemns Israeli settlement expansion plans

Al-Azhar Grand Imam Dr Ahmed el-Tayyeb has strongly condemned Israel's plans in Al-Quds (occupied East Jerusalem). Tayyeb, meanwhile, urged Arabs and Muslims worldwide to be aware of the danger which threatens Al-Quds and the world peace. Tayyeb made the remarks during his meeting Monday with Palestinian Chief Justice Sheikh Tayseer al-Tamimi. Israeli officials said this week they would press on with plans to build 6,000 homes for settlers on land claimed by Palestinians, defying criticism from international powers who fear the move will damage already faint hopes for a peace accord.
