Thai court announces not to issue injunction over emergency state

Thai Civil Court on Friday decided not to issue an injunction over the legality of the emergency state imposed by the government in the country's capital. The court announced that as it is not stated in the decree that the caretaker government would crack down on protesters, there is no reason to issue a suspension over the implementation of the decree. Thaworn Senneam, a leader of the People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) and former Democrat Member of Parliament, earlier filed a suit with the Civil Court to request an injunction to suspend the emergency state. The PDRC said their rally was peaceful according to an earlier ruling by the Constitutional Court. The Civil Court is scheduled to hold the first hearing of the case on Feb. 6. Thai caretaker government on Jan. 21 invoked an Emergency Decree in the capital Bangkok and some nearby areas, effective for 60 days, amid escalating violence and protests. The country's general election is decided to be held as scheduled on Feb. 2 despite the disagreement of the Election Committee and the boycott of the protesters. Though not agreeing with the decision to go ahead with the voting, the EC said after a meeting with Thai caretaker government earlier on Tuesday that it would still do its best to organize the election. Head of Thai police's center to maintain peace during the Feb. 2 voting said Friday that over 200,000 policemen will be deployed across the country to ensure security, in addition to 7,000 soldiers in areas where emergency state invoked. .
