Tight security for G20 meeting in Sydney

Security in Sydney has been strengthened for the 2014 G20 Meetings of Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors on Feb. 22-23, local media reported on Monday. U.S. Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen, IMF (International Monetary Fund) Chief Christine Lagarde, World Bank President Jim Yong Kim, U.S. Treasury Secretary Jack Lew and Britain's Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne will attend the two-day summit, according to the Australian Associated Press. Bomb, dog and tactical response squads will be accessible for security at key venues. "At this stage we haven't heard anything about any protests, but it's only Monday," a police spokeswoman said. "Because it's the finance ministers' meeting there won't be anything fenced off." It is believed that the G20 leaders' meeting in Brisbane in November will attract a bigger security operation with the arrival of likely guests U.S. President Barack Obama, British Prime Minister David Cameron and Germany's Chancellor Angela Merkel.
