The Kuwait-based Training Gate International (TGI) concluded Thursday evening the fourth round of its initiative dubbed as 'KELNA' (all of us) to reach out to people with disabilities. The voluntary initiative was launched under the auspices of Minister of Information and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Sheikh Salman Sabah Al-Salem Al-Humoud Al-Sabah on Tuesday December 3 to coincide with the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. "The three-day event included seminars to raise people, specially youth, awareness about the value of accepting differences among people and increasing outreach and positive interaction among all segments of the society," Nora Al-Othman, TGI Co-Founder and Deputy General Manager, told KUNA. Al-Othaman added that the initiative allowed Kuwaiti youth with disabilities to express their views about society development at the different levels and in various domains such as education, employment, healthcare, sports and youth affairs. She pointed out that TGI is organizing this event for the fourth consecutive year to shed lights on the need to exert more efforts to help achieve full integration of people with disabilities with their peers in the society. Training Gate International (TGI) is a non-profit organization established in July, 2009, as the first and the only one of its kind in Kuwait to operate as a specialized human resources development organization focusing, in collaboration with international partners, on training and skills development for people with disabilities, their families, advocates, teachers, supervisors, co-workers, and related professional service providers in both the public and private sectors. The International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) is celebrated annually on December 3rd around the world to promote awareness and mobilize support for critical issues pertaining to the inclusion of persons with disabilities in society and development. It also seeks to increase awareness of gains to be derived from the integration of persons with disabilities in every aspect of political, social, economic, and cultural life. The theme for this year's International Day is, "Break Barriers, Open Doors: for an inclusive society and development for all".
