Tunisian coastguards rescued 286 African immigrants heading for Italian island of Lampedusa overnight Saturday, a Tunisian radio station reported on Sunday. Up to 240 immigrants on a boat were rescued after spending three nights in shallow waters off the coast of Kerkennah in central Tunisia, while another boat carrying 46 immigrants was found drifting off the coast of Ben Guerdane in southern Tunisia. The 240 immigrants were taken to the port of Sfax, and the other 46 were taken to a camp for illegal immigrants in Ben Guerdane, the radio said. Both boats were believed to set off from Libya
