Turkey irked by crisis between Saudi Arabia, Iran

Turkey's foreign ministry on Tuesday expressed grave concern over recent crisis between Saudi Arabia and Iran and the attacks on the Saudi diplomatic missions in Iran.

"As per the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations [1961], diplomatic and consular mission buildings have total immunity, and countries that accept this convention have the responsibility of providing security of these missions," the foreign ministry said in a statement quoted by Daily Sabah.

Accordingly, the attacks on Saudi Arabia's missions in the Iranian cities of Tahran and Mashhad are "unacceptable", the Foreign Ministry said.

The foreign ministry further said that Turkey called for an end to the language of threat and a return to diplomatic language, urging mutual caution.

"Turkey desires that the tension between the two countries does not reflect negatively on the security, stability, and peace of the region," the statement added.
