Turkey seizes 100 kg of explosives in eastern province

Turkish security forces found 100 kg of explosive planted by a road in the eastern province of Tunceli on Tuesday, local news reported.

Turkish bomb squads and armed vehicles were dispatched to the region early Tuesday morning. Initial findings from the surveillance of the area showed that the explosives were remote controlled, according to the report.

The explosives may have been planted in the region by militants of the outlawed Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK) which is listed as a terrorist group by Turkey as well as by the United States and the European Union, the report added.

On Monday, a suicide bombing suspected to be perpetrated by the Islamic State (IS) group killed 32 people and wounded 104 others in Suruc town in the southeastern province of Sanliurfa.

The attack hit the garden of a municipal cultural center when hundreds of young people were holding a conference to discuss plans to help rebuild the Syrian town of Ayn al-Arab, also known as Kobane, a predominantly Kurdish town which has been under attack of IS militants since early 2015.
