Turkey urges clear KRG stance on PKK

Turkey's FM has urged Iraq's Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) to adopt a clear position against the PKK terrorist group, Press TV reported. Turkey's Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu made the remarks in a meeting on Thursday with KRG President Massoud Barzani in the Turkish city of Istanbul. Davutoglu told reporters after the meeting that Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) terrorists are harming the brotherly Turkish-Kurdish ties, a Press TV correspondent reported. He further added that Turkey now expects KRG assistance in his fight with the terrorist group. The meeting took place nearly two weeks after the PKK terrorists killed 24 Turkish security officers and injured 22 others. The PKK is listed as a terrorist organization by much of the international community, including Turkey, Iran, the European Union, and the United States. Over 45,000 people in Turkey have lost their lives since PKK terrorists launched an armed campaign against Ankara in 1984 in a quest to force an independent Kurdish state in southeastern Turkey. PKK elements launch their terror attacks from Iraq's Qandil Mountains in areas under the control of the KRG where Israeli elements and institutions are also known to be operating.
