Turkey, US discuss which base to use against Daesh

Turkey and the U.S. will determine which military base to use in the fight against Daesh, Turkey's Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said Saturday.

It is not certain yet if U.S. warplanes will be able to use the strategic Incirlik military base in southern Adana province to destroy Daesh positions, Cavusoglu said in a press conference.

 "Our aim is to remove Daesh threat," Cavusoglu stressed. Turkish fighter jets began launching airstrikes on Daesh positions in Syria Friday.

Turkey announced  on Friday that the U.S.-led anti-Daesh coalition could use Turkish bases to deploy its manned and unmanned aerial vehicles.

"We attach great importance to our cooperation with the U.S. and believe that it will result in an effective fight against the Daesh threat," Turkish minister said.

He said the elimination of Daesh would automatically lead to formation of safe zones in Syria and Iraq.

 "We have kept saying that refugees in Turkey and neighboring countries as well as those displaced within Syria and Iraq could be placed in such safe zones," said the minister.

The Turkish minister reiterated that Turkey had put Daesh on its terror list in October 2013.
