Turkey's 'disappointment' over Russian Srebrenica veto

Turkey voiced its “disappointment” at the Russian veto of a UN resolution on the 1995 Srebrenica massacre on Friday.

Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu criticized the Security Council veto in an interview on Croatian state television station HRT. He is attending a forum in Dubrovnik.

On Wednesday, Russia vetoed a resolution condemning the massacre of around 8,000 Bosnian Muslim men and boys by Bosnian Serb paramilitaries as genocide.

The resolution, drafted by Britain days before the 20th anniversary of the atrocity, noted that "acceptance of the tragic events at Srebrenica as genocide is a prerequisite for reconciliation".

Four members of the council abstained, including China, while the remaining 10 voted in favor of the motion.
